What is TRiO Student Support Services
TRiO is a multi-faceted support services program that helps students overcome higher education barriers. TRiO is funded by a grant from the US Department of Education.
Our mission is to put student success first by helping our participants reach their individual educational goals in a timely manner, and to increase persistence and graduation rates for underrepresented students at College of the Redwoods, Eureka campus.
Services Offered
- Academic Advising and Counseling: Educational planning and class scheduling, career exploration, transfer advising, and much more.
- Academic and Personal Support: Individual and online tutoring, priority class registration, study skills and time management skills, as well as workshops on a variety of personal well-being, academic success, and financial literacy topics.
- Financial Aid Support: Assistance with connecting you to financial aid, help applying to scholarships, tips on applying for the FAFSA, and money management workshops. * Please note that TRiO SSS does not currently offer grant aid, book vouchers, or transportation assistance.
- Transfer to a 4-year University: Selecting the right university, meeting university representatives, annual university tour, and help with transfer applications.
Eligibility
The TRiO Student Support Services Program serves students who meet the following criteria:
- First Generation: Neither parent has graduated from a 4-year university OR
- Income Qualified: Determined from evaluating federal taxable income information OR
- Documented Disability
- All students must have an academic need for program services.
How to Apply
Please download our application, it can be filled out electronically and emailed or printed out and delivered. To apply you must:
- Be registered for classes in the current or upcoming term.
- Be registered for at least 6 units
- Have a parent or guardian's signature on your application. This applies to dependent students only (those under the age of 24 who haven't been determined to be independent per the FAFSA)
